My 2009 video series Slow Races documents everyday instances of unassuming beauty: noticing the visual poetry of secret serendipity, observing the subtle traces of time, and documenting the intrigue of pure slowness. With my focus solely on the minute details of everyday life — drops of rain on a window, the reflection of a tree in a mug of water, and the constantly fluid strands of light on a blowing curtain — the most miniscule change manifests an enormous significance. Watching these videos, the viewer is reminded of the potential for rediscovery within the habitual and the depth of experience found within the slow gaze.
